This
weekend, we were in Salem, Mass and wanted to get some good seafood,
but we also wanted to be right on the water. We decided to go into Finz
Restaurant. Now, we have been there in the
past, and we know that they are on the higher price side for what you
get. But, we were there, and it was raining, so we went in.
First, the waiter was excellent: attentive but not pushy and as friendly as could be.
We
started off with some of the chicken wings with soy jack and pineapple.
For a seafood restaurant, they were surprisingly good. Not great, but
good.
Then
we moved onto the Lobster Rangoon’s, served with sweet soy and hot
mustard. Now, these were most likely the best thing we had that night.
We also had some oysters. They were fresh and sweet, but for me, they were overpriced.
Then for the main courses we had the Finz Seafood Paella.
Seafood and shellfish over saffron, sweet pea and chorizo rice, crispy calamari, lemon garlic aioli.
For
me, this was very greasy, especially considering it only had a few
small pieces of Chorizo. I would never order this again. (Luckily, my
daughter was not with us who had spent some time
in Spain. I think she would have been very upset with the way they made
this dish.)
Baja Fish Tacos
Lightly fried haddock, shredded lettuce, tomato avocado salsa, cotija cheese, cilantro crème fraiche.
This was not bad at all. But then again, how can you go badly with fried fish tacos?
Next dish was the Atlantic Salmon. They give you the option to pick how you would like this cooked and seasoned.
(Cajun, Caribbean Jerk, Lemon Herb, Sesame Seaweed. Served with sauce and grain of the day)
We had the Lemon Herb, and it was just ok. It was over-cooked a little.
The
last dish was the Red Snapper. This was a special for the day, served
with a mashed potato and veggie mix. This was a pretty good dish but not
worth going back for.
So
I would say that there are better seafood restaurants out there, and
Finz is really not worth the money. But, I will say Finz does seem to
have a nice bar life, and the staff is very nice.
